The Element of the Month is rooted in the Table of Diversity™ — a framework that maps over 97 elements of human identity and is inspired by the periodic table of elements. Just as every element in chemistry has its own properties and place in the world, every dimension of human identity shapes how we experience life, how we connect with others, and how we understand ourselves.
The Element of the Month is the Table of Diversity™ in practice. Each month brings one element off the table and into your home.
Each month is anchored by something happening in the world — a holiday, an observance, a movement, a moment in history, an issue unfolding right now. We explore it through the life and legacy of someone who lived it.
Two examples:
Judith Heumann: disability rights activist, educator, and one of the most important voices of the movement. Her story opens a conversation about what it means to belong, to fight for access, and to refuse to be left out — wherever you are in your understanding.
Marsha P. Johnson: activist, artist, and a founding figure of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. Her life invites families to talk about identity, courage, and what it looks like to show up for others when the world isn't showing up for you.
